Treadmill motor Shaft size modification

Post by Radu » Sun Oct 14, 2018 10:24 am

Wondering if I could get help with adapting/modifying a treadmill motor flywheel shaft in order to fit a standard drive wheel. The problem I have is that most drive wheels I found for sale (eBay) come in a standard 5/8, 3/4, or 7/8 bore, therefore I have to adjust the existing motor shaft to one of these measurements.I do not have a welder, just some basic tools, therefore somewhat limited options.
The flywheel's OD is 30 mm (1.2 ", I believe). If I remove the flywheel I get a shaft that has two steps/dimensions: towards the tip it is 12.5 mm (almost 1/2 ", I believe) and towards the base 17 mm (0.67 ").
Also, is there a way to extend the shaft outwards since it is only 1 " long at its base, maybe with a coupler or an adapter to a standard size?

I hope my attempts at explaining this are decent enough, I do not have any technical language skills/background or the education necessary for being more detailed or specific, unfortunately.

Many thanks!
Radu
