Tooling arms

Post by zsartell » Mon Nov 06, 2017 10:26 am

I could not find a reference to the length of the 1-1/2" tooling arms needed for the platen and the tool rest. Am I missing this in the build instructions?

Thanks,
Zach

The tool arms are 1.5" square aluminum, 20" long. Item number 218 in the Bill of Materials. download/file.php?id=41
They are shown under the Work Rest section, but quantity 2. One is for the flat platen, the other is for the tool rest.

Any advantage to using cold roll bar over aluminum for tool bars.

Steel will give you more mass and dampen any small vibrations better. Steel will also give a better hold for tapped threads.

In my case, at the local metal supermarket, aluminum was cheaper than steel.
