The DC1 is the first of hopefully many varieties of belt grinders to be made open source as part of this project. It is adjustable from vertical belt to horizontal belt and the flat platen can be tilted positive and negative in both positions. The adjustable work rest can be set to work in both vertical and horizontal operation. The main adjustments, frame tilt and platen angle are tool-less and use adjustable handles or knobs for easy changes.
Standard 1-1/2" tool arms are used.
This design requires a NEMA 56 C face motor. Important to remember that not all motors will work with this design. Some motors have different frame sizes, 143T, 145T, IEC sizes etc. Single phase motors have starting capacitors that shouldn't interfere with the frame, but you should always check before sending the files out for cutting.
The frame material is 3/8" (0.375") thick. This is to allow for drilling and tapping to hold the keyed pieces together. Do not substitute the frame material thickness as several keyed pieces will not fit properly if you do. The base is 1/4" (0.25") thick.
