Re: Simko's Weld Together OSG

After doing three grinders, I can say that each one was slightly different. I would get an assortment of 1/2” ID shims (0.060, 0.030, 0.015, 0.010) and start with all of the wheels with just a 0.060” shim between the wheel and the plate and enough shims to make up the extra space on the outside of t...

Re: Simko's Weld Together OSG

I saw on another post that you said you were thinking about getting the 30 pound gas piston, did you end up getting that weight or a higher strength? The 30# gas shock in the 'middle' position works perfect! Middle is in quotes as there are an even number of holes so there really isn't a middle pos...

Thank you for all of this. I would be interested in the new file for those spacers.
The as-built spacer drawings are in the Rev 3 or Rev 4 drawings about five posts back in this thread

Re: Simko's Weld Together OSG

I took the 3D file down as I haven't had a chance to make the same changes to it as I did the 2D file.

People have been asking for the 3D file, so here it is, but you will need to make both the REV3 and REV4 changes to have the 3D model match the 2D geometry.

Re: Simko's Weld Together OSG

Thanks for the response Dave. You are absolutely correct, the wheels that we bought from Origin Blade Maker did not have any spacers inside and caused the bearings to side load if tightened to much. We considered making spacers for in-between the bearings, but we both agreed that we wanted to also e...

Re: Simko's Weld Together OSG

REV 3 - Changed Tracking Hinge Bottom hole from 1/2-13 to 3/8-16 - Changed Platen D-Plate wheel mount holes from 1/2" clearance holes to 3/8-16 tapped holes - Changed 1/4" clearance holes on bottom corners of Left Frame Plate to 5/16-18 tapped holes due to interference of nut with Front and Rear Su...

Re: Simko's Weld Together OSG

Updated drawings for improvements we made while building. Also changed quantities and nest for one grinder instead of three grinders. I am sure that someone can come up with a better way to nest the parts and use less steel.

Re: Simko's Weld Together OSG

I was looking for the easy way out because I didn’t feel like making two stands. I did a little searching for ‘tool stands’, ‘tool carts’, ‘tool tables’, and settled on a DeWalt planer stand. They are the perfect height/depth for an OSG grinder, have a pop down caster to allow the cart to move, and ...

Re: Simko's Weld Together OSG

I wanted to pass this on to the group as a better way to mount and shim the platen and tracking wheels. My friend and I got our three 2x72 grinders all put together, but he was the first to get his running. Once he got it running, we quickly found some shortcomings in how the wheels mount to the 'Pl...

Re: Simko's Weld Together OSG

Wow, you've been a busy man! Love it. Any issues that you encountered? Dan Issues so far... 1) Plasma cutting tab/slot construction sucks even when you try to take into account for the edge taper. Each grinder had quite a bit of hand filing to get all of the tabs/slots to fit. Water jet or laser wo...
